Dear
District 29 Zontians,
As
hours and days pass we realize the dimensions of the
catastrophe.
The enormous devastation in South Asia and East Africa
is of such epic proportions that it is most difficult
to grasp. I ask that you please open your hearts and
encourage your members, their families and friends
to join with Zonta International and the world community
in plea for relief assistance. Unfortunately, Zonta
International (International level) does not have
the mechanism to establish its own fund to disaster
relief.
Zonta
International President Mary Ellen Bittner issued
a memorandum. I have sent the letter to you on December
30 2004, on the Tsunami Disaster in South Asia and
East Africa. Please go to www.zonta.org to read the
entire message.
In
this emergency situation, of course there are a number
of well-qualified charities already making a responsible
and immediate impact with donations they receive.
Here are just a few.
CARE
International www.care.org
Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontières

International Federation of the Red Cross and Red
Crescent Societies www.ifrc.org

But
I like to inform you that the 2004-2006 Governors
of Zonta International have been in communication
with each other and are anxiously monitoring the resulting
events of this catastrophe. We are waiting to hear
from the Governors of District 17 (Suphaporn Peters,
Bangkok Thailand) and District 25 (Diruba Ahmed, Cittagong,
Bangladesh) for their specific requests for assistance.
They will, no doubt, have their own service projects
and can benefit greatly from our contributions. We
are waiting for their proposals.
We
expect your evidence of solidarity on the account
of Zonta District 29.
Payments can be done:
ABN/AMRO bank Groningen The Netherlands
BIC : ABNANL 2A

Name : N. Bijmolen-van der Tuuk
Inzake ZI District 29, notice : "Tsunami - Asia"
We
have about 1700 members in our district. My proposal
is € 15,00 pro person to start with and I hope
we collect more money. May I suggest you to take the
opportunity of your next club meeting (January, February
of March) to remit your contribution to your club
Treasurer. Then, the amount collected in each club
will be transfered to Nela Bijmolen District 29 Treasurer.
As
soon as I get news from the Governors of District
17 and 25, I shall keep you informed of their needs.
In March we shall make a first report of the financial
situation.
In
June, at our District Conference 17-19 June 2005,
we will have a special item as we will know more about
the situation in District 17 and 25.
CARE
INTERNATIONAL will give a presentation at the District
Conference on Sunday morning June 19 2005.
It
is important that we establish the means to care for
our Zonta sisters and their families.
May I ask your help and support to show our solidarity
with all the victims.
On
Wednesday January 5 at noon we will commemorate in
the European Union the victims of the Tsunami disaster.
I
hope translations will follow as soon as possible
in French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Russian(?) on the
website www.zontadistrict29.org
With love, sincere thanks and warm wishes for a safe,
healthy and good New Year,
Regina
Smit, Governor
Nicole Herb, LT Governor
